In partnership with Hunter Communications Inc, ION- International Ocean Networks is pleased to announce that together they have launched a new iDirect Evolution Ku Band maritime satellite network @ 115WB with coverage over the West, East and North coast of Canada. This means that for the first time a Superyacht, Commercial and Cruise vessel clients can voyage through the famous Northwest Passage (NWP) and maintain Ku Band Satellite Communications throughout the journey with small stabilized antennas even up to a Latitude of 75°.

The service went live at the start of August in time for the first Superyacht owner to navigate the NWP using the service. Gavin Rose, ION Sales Director stated “The main advantage of having the connectivity throughout the entire NWP journey was that the latest ice maps could be received instantaneously by the Captain enabling him to navigate a safe journey through the NWP avoiding any Ice.  Both crew and passenger welfare were greatly enhanced enabling high data throughput of emails, social networks and video downloads”.
